SeasonThe island works from late March to early November, with July and August hot and full and the shoulder months mild enough for walking and swimming on the same day.
AirportsPalma de Mallorca (PMI) is the only airport, roughly twenty minutes from the city and under an hour from almost any point on the island.
Mallorca's hotel landscape is broader than its reputation suggests. Beyond the resort strips of the south and east, the island holds converted fincas in the flat interior around Sineu and Santa Maria, small townhouses behind the cathedral in Palma, and a handful of grand houses along the Serra de Tramuntana where the road to Deià and Sóller narrows to a single lane. Adults only houses are common, family run estates with a few rooms and a pool even more so, and the agroturismo scheme has filled the interior with small country hotels.
The advantages travellers find here are quiet, space and easy access. Palma's airport handles direct flights from most of Europe, transfers are short, and many rural houses collect guests themselves. Spring and autumn are the seasons regulars choose, when the almond blossom or the olive harvest sets the pace. Insiders book the interior rather than the coast, then drive to a different cove each morning.
