Lezzeno is the shore that visitors drive through on the way from Como to Bellagio, a string of hamlets on the eastern side of the western arm. Here lies something few places on Lake Como can offer: a beach you can actually swim from. Filario was built on the site of a small wire factory at Bagnana, took five years to complete and opened in July 2015; today it has thirteen hotel rooms and twenty-two residences.
The building is modern but restrained. The facade is Ceppo di Gré, a Lombard conglomerate stone, hand-cut and laid in horizontal courses that follow the curve of the hill. Alessandro Agrati, founder of Culti, designed the interiors in tones lifted from the water and the woods, with furniture made in the workshops of Cantù and Brianza a few kilometres inland. Every hotel room has a terrace on the water; there is no such thing as a rear view here.
An infinity pool sits on the terrace above the lake, kayaks and paddleboards wait on the shore, and the beach is for guests and residents only. Filo is the formal restaurant, with a terrace redrawn by CMP Design, and the Yeast Beach Bar sits down by the water. The residences have kitchens, which explains why some guests settle in for a fortnight rather than a weekend.

June and September: warm enough to swim off the beach, before and after the August crush on the Bellagio road; the pool terrace is at its best in the last hour of light.

Ask the front desk to book the water taxi the day before rather than driving; Bellagio is a short run by water and the SP583 crawls on summer weekends.
Getting there
Milan Malpensa is the most convenient airport, about 90 minutes by car to Lezzeno via Como; the hotel asks guests to arrange the airport transfer in advance, and a water taxi from Como can be booked ahead for arrival by lake.
