The Omnia Mountain Lodge

The Omnia sits on a rock outcrop 45 metres above the roofs of Zermatt. You reach it through a tunnel cut into the rock and a glass lift that rises straight into the lobby, and the sense of having been lifted out of the busy village lasts for the whole stay. The lodge opened in 2006. The New York architect Ali Tayar drew it as a contemporary reading of the mountain lodge, with wood and stone, open fires and twentieth-century design classics beside pieces made in Valais.

There are only 30 rooms, twelve of them suites, looked after by a team of about fifty. The Tower Suite has a turret, a fireplace and a telescope, the Roof Suite up in the attic has its own sauna, and the Double Room with Mountain Bath puts a freestanding tub in an oriel window. The wellness area is open only to house guests: an indoor pool you can swim out of into the open air facing the Matterhorn, an outdoor whirlpool, two saunas and two steam rooms.

Since May 2026 Markian Barmettler has led the kitchen, cooking with seasonal produce from the Alpine region for the restaurant, the lounge and the sun terrace, where the Matterhorn fills the view. Zermatt is car free, so the hotel's own electric taxi meets guests at the station or the heliport. Dogs and other pets are not admitted anywhere in the hotel.
