Suvretta House

In 1911 the hotelier Anton Bon set out to build a grand hotel in the mountains. Together with the Swiss architect Karl Koller he realised it on a private estate of meadow and forest two kilometres west of St. Moritz, above the Upper Engadine lakes, and Suvretta House opened on 16 December 1912. The founder's descendants, the Candrian-Bon family, still stand behind it, with Esther and Peter Egli as general managers. Much of the old manner survives: afternoon tea in the lobby to live piano music, carved oak pillars under the coffered ceiling of the Grand Restaurant, and a dark suit and tie for gentlemen at dinner.

The house suits skiing families. A private lift takes guests to the chairlift into the Corviglia area, the pistes lead back to the door, and lift passes are sold in the hotel's own ski shop. Children from three spend their days in the Kiddy Club, learn on the nursery slope just above the hotel, where a race is held every week, and eat together in the Teddy Club. There is also an ice rink of the hotel's own and a curling club for guests, founded in 1912.

The new spa opened in December 2025 and covers more than 4,670 square metres, with a 25 metre indoor pool, an outdoor pool kept at 34 degrees, a children's pool and a separate ladies' sauna. Of the 176 rooms and suites, those on the south side look across the lakes, the others towards Corviglia and Piz Nair. Dogs are welcome, though not in the Stube.
