Petunia Ibiza, a Beaumier Hotel

Petunia sits on a hillside above Cala Carbó on Ibiza's south-west coast, with the rock of Es Vedrà on the horizon. The original building dates from the 1970s; Beaumier, the French collection behind Les Roches Rouges near Saint-Raphaël, has turned it into a hotel of 17 rooms and 25 suites. Atelier Saint-Lazare designed the rooms with white walls, raw wood and natural fabrics, the Mallorcan glassworks Gordiola blew the lamps and vases, and the landscape gardener Juan Masedo replanted the gardens with endemic species. The Deluxe Es Vedrà rooms have balconies facing the rock, and the Bougainvillea Suites come with a rooftop and a garden.

Baltasar Rigo, a Mallorcan chef who trained under Albert Adrià, leads all three restaurants: La Mesa d'Es Vedrà for breakfast and dinner, Los Olivos for tapas and shared plates at lunch, and La Mirada on the roof, with raw dishes, cocktails and the sunset. La Mirada is for adults; the rest of the hotel welcomes families with Family Suites and children's menus, and dogs of any size may stay in the rooms.

The hotel has a gym and runs yoga, pilates and mindfulness sessions, live music and outdoor film nights, as well as bike and walking tours and snorkelling. Cala Carbó is a ten-minute walk away, and Cala Vedella, with shallow water for children, lies 2.6 kilometres off. The hotel closes over the winter.
