AKA Sutton Place

AKA Sutton Place occupies the former Sutton Hotel on East 56th Street, a pre-war building between First and Second Avenues where the novelist Nathanael West worked as manager in 1933. Today it holds 76 furnished apartments, one and two bedroom suites and penthouses, run for people who need New York for a month rather than a weekend; the company presents it as an alternative to month-to-month rentals. Memorial Sloan Kettering, Weill Cornell and the Hospital for Special Surgery are all within about a mile.

The suites are apartments in the proper sense. Kitchens have Sub-Zero and Bosch appliances, granite counters and Poggenpohl cabinets, each suite has a separate living area, and the two bedroom suites measure 1,100 to 1,300 square feet; some units add a private terrace or solarium. High speed Wi-Fi runs through the whole building, the business centre has Mac workstations, and the a.lounge serves free coffee and tea every morning until noon before turning into a bar from Tuesday to Saturday evening. There is a 24 hour Technogym gym, an indoor heated pool, an eight seat screening room with a weekly film, wine lockers, valet laundry and grocery delivery to the suite.

Sutton Place is a quiet residential corner of Midtown East, less than two blocks from the East River and Sutton Place Park. Bloomingdale's is under half a mile away, Central Park and MoMA both less than a mile. Two pets are allowed per suite, and the E train at Lexington Avenue and 53rd Street is under ten minutes' walk.
