Capella Singapore covers 30 acres of rainforest and lawn on Sentosa. At its heart are colonial buildings from the 1880s, built for British artillery officers and gazetted for conservation in 2000. Foster + Partners joined them to a curved modern wing, Jaya Ibrahim designed the first interiors, and the resort opened in March 2009 with 113 rooms, villas and manors; André Fu Studio has since refurbished the rooms and villas. Some seventy peacocks live in the grounds, and three pools step down the slope towards the sea.
The 38 villas are the reason to book: each has a living area, a terrace and a private plunge pool of three by three metres. The manors, two of them in the colonial buildings, add their own pools and a Manor Culturist on call around the clock. Auriga Spa times its treatments to the phases of the moon, with vitality pools, herbal steam rooms and nine treatment suites that open onto gardens. Cassia serves modern Cantonese cooking in a room by André Fu, Fiamma is the Italian kitchen, and The Pineapple Room mixes cocktails in the heritage building.
Families get the Little Stars workshops and scavenger hunts, and babysitting can be arranged. Pets up to about 15 kilograms may stay, one per room or villa, and are welcome at the outdoor tables of Fiamma, Cassia and Bob's Bar, though not at the pools or the spa. A private trail leads down to Palawan Beach, where dogs are allowed, and Changi Airport is about 25 minutes away by car.

From Singapore Changi Airport it is about 25 minutes by taxi or by a car booked through the resort. By public transport, the MRT runs to HarbourFront, where the Sentosa Express monorail crosses to the island.
