Sublime Comporta began in 2014 as a fourteen room retreat in the pine forest behind the Alentejo coast, opened by Gonçalo Pessoa on land where the buildings were fitted between the trees rather than the other way round. It has grown since into a small village of low timber and glass cabanas, suites and villas across 68 hectares, but the estate still reads as forest first: umbrella pines, cork oaks, sand underfoot, and a long sky at dusk.
The villas, with two to five bedrooms, each have their own pool and kitchen, and the Cabana Suites bring the private pool down to couples. Bio-Pool Suites sit on natural, chemical free water where frogs move in. Around them are an adults only spa with an indoor pool, tennis and padel courts, stables, and a cluster of restaurants that run from a Portuguese dining room to an Italian trattoria and a beach club fifteen minutes away on one of the longest sands in Portugal. Much of what reaches the table comes from the estate's own gardens.
What makes it unusual is the openness of the welcome. Dogs of any size are accepted in the cabana categories and villas, with a bed and bowls waiting, and the kids club takes children from three so parents can have the spa to themselves. It works in shoulder season best, when Lisbon families thin out and the pines are quiet.

Lisbon Airport (LIS) is about 128 km away, roughly 1 hour 15 minutes by road across the Tagus bridge and down the A2. The hotel arranges private transfers for up to four guests, or hire a car, which you will want for the beaches and villages.
